An Appeal for New Presbytery
 
You may be aware of the fact that Christianity existed in Shirva as early as the 16th century. When our ancestors stood by their faith, they were deported by Tipu Sultan. After their return from captivity between 1795 and 1800, they built a church dedicated to Our Lady of Health (Lower Church). Another Church dedicated to St. Francis Xavier was built in 1869 (Upper Church) close by. Both the churches which were under the Padroado (Goa) and the Propaganda (Verapoly) respectively were united into one church and parish on 15 september 1910 with Our Lady of Health as primary patron and St. Francis Xavier as the secondary patron. The new church was blessed by Bishop Paul Perini on 9 February 1915 along with which the existing Presbytery was also built.
 
 
Thanks to the leadership of the successive parish priests and lay leaders and the cooperation of the Parishioners, Shirva has grown into a prominent spiritual and educational centre today. The Church campus houses thousands of students from KG to PG. It is gratifying to note that the students who have passed out from Shirva are holding high posts in various sectors in India as well as abroad.
 
 
The Presbytery, Residence of the Priests who serve in the Parish, which is almost a century old needs to be rebuilt. Understanding well this felt need of the parish, the Parish pastoral Council has decided to build a new Presbytery at a cost of Rs. 95 lakhs. Each family of the parish has been requested to contribute Rs.5,000/-. However, poor families have been asked to contribute as much as they can.
 
We request you t lend us your helping hand in this project. The donors will be recognised by inscribing their names on a granite plaque as follws:
